Temperatures hit a sizzling 30 degrees in west Mayo town
Temperatures have soared to a sizzling 30 degrees celsius (86 fahrenheit) in Newport today - the hottest day of 2021 to date.
It was not the warmest place in Ireland, however, as Mount Dillon in Co. Roscommon recorded a high 30.8C.
The highest temperature on the island was registered at Castlederg, Co. Tyrone - 31.3C.
Another hot and dry day is forecast for tomorrow, with long spells of hazy sunshine. Highest temperatures of 27 to 30 degrees in light, occasionally moderate, southeasterly breezes.
A status yellow high temperature remains in place until Friday while a thunderstorm warning is in place tonight.
A warning has also been issued to motorists due to melted tar at a number of locations.
