Covid incidence rates in two Mayo areas are above national average

Two electoral areas of Mayo have recorded Covid incidence rates above the national average during the 14-day period from July 6 to 19 when the saw its number of confirmed cases rise by 289.

Claremorris had 81 new cases during the two weeks in question while Westport registered 62.

It left Claremorris, with a population of 27,141, with an incidence rate of 298.4 while Westport, with a population of 18,379, clocked a rating of 337.4 - both locations being above the national average of 245.8.

The Ballina area recorded 60 new cases, giving it a rating of 238.9 per 100,000 of its population of 25,110.

Castlebar, with a population of 29,992, scored a rating of 183.4 after 55 new cases were identified.

Swinford registered 18 news cases, giving it a rating of 104.1, while Belmullet's rating of the lowest in the county with 103.2 after 13 new cases were recorded.
