New Mayo coastline bike trail is attracting rave reviews

A new bike trail in west Mayo has received praise from Westport Councillor Peter Flynn at a recent meeting of the strategic tourism committee.

The Clew Bay Bike Trail, a joint venture between Mayo County Council and Fáilte Ireland, is a bike and ferry route looping Clew Bay, curving around the coastline, incorporating both Clare Island and Achill Island.

The trail primarily utilises the existing Great Western Greenway path, along with a section of segregated cycle path and some sections of the local road network.

Westport Councillor Peter Flynn thanked Anna Connor, tourism development officer, Mayo County Council, for all the work that her and her team did on the whole loop.

The feedback from people was very positive and ferry operators had a fantastic season, in particular from Achill to Clare Island.

Councillor Flynn requested a future update to see where the project will go next, with his hope for the loop to have state of the art facilities for people all the over world to visit.
