Key meeting to help end road project 'nightmare' of Mayo residents

Mayo County Council and the Road Design Office has agreed to meet residents at Kilkenny, Breaffy Road, Castlebar, whose homes are located adjacent to the new bridge under construction along the new N5 dual carriageway.

The news has been welcomed by Councillor Ger Deere.

He stated: "The lives of the residents have been severely impacted by on-going works over the last 18 months due to prolonged noise caused by rock-breaking.

"Their welfare has also been affected by the level of dust and the lack of clear communications with them when raising issues of genuine concern.

"Following their plight being highlighted by The Connaught Telegraph some weeks ago I arranged for two residents, Donal Gallagher and Emer Quinn, to address the monthly Castlebar Municipal District meeting where they outlined what they have had to endure every day for nearly two years.

"I appealed to officials in the roads design office and the contractors to urgently meet and engage with residents to try and concentrate on getting works completed within the shortest time frame possible in order to order to end the nightmare of the residents.

"I sincerely hope progress will made after the meeting."
