Four Mayo outdoor projects to share €75,975 funding

Four projects in Mayo have received €75,975 under the Outdoor Recreation Infrastructure Scheme for four outdoor projects.

The news has been welcomed by Deputy Michael Ring and Deputy Alan Dillon.

A sum of €20,000 is allocated to the Calicaun Bay Trail and viewing point for the enhancement of an old drovers track leading to an elevated vantage point overlooking the majestic Clew Bay at Knocknageeha, Newport.

A similar sum goes to Bohola Walking and Cycling Hub for the creation of three walking/cycling loops with a designated trailhead, centred around the Village of Bohola and surrounding countryside.

Up to €17,979 is granted to the Ross Beach Walkway, Killala, for repair and upgrade of existing walkway to Ross Beach, upgrade and repair of fencing.

Kilcummin Head Coastal Walk has received €18,000 for a section of the Kilcummin Loop Walk off road along the coastline at Kilcummin Head.

Funding for larger projects, under measure 2 and 3 of the scheme will be announced in the coming weeks.

“This funding will further enhance Mayo’s natural amenities and promote Mayo as a tourism adventure location.

"This will assist in supporting our rural economy to rebuild as more people make rural Ireland a destination of choice,” added Deputy Ring.

Deputy Alan Dillon said the scheme is designed to support the enhancement of dozens of recreational amenities such as our mountain trails, forest walks, beaches, rivers, lakes, blueways and greenways.
