Green light for Bohola biodiversity park

PLANS to construct a biodiversity community park in Bohola have received the green light from Mayo County Council.

Located at Toocananagh in Bohola, with facility will be a place for sport and general wellbeing, while protecting and promoting the natural environment.

Facilities include a GAA pitch, training pitch, and two kilometres of walking tracks that encircle the park and join up with the local primary school.

A 150-seat viewing stand with toilet cubicles to the rear, clubhouse and dressing rooms are also into the plan.

There will be an outdoor covered community space, children's play park, bicycle pump park, with floodlights for the pitches, lighting for the walkway, ball stop nets and goal posts and electronic scoreboard.

The site will accommodate 113 car parking spaces with six bus bays and bicycle parking areas.

Environmental plans include a biodiversity orchard with picnic areas and wild meadow grass areas, as well as a biodiversity pond/wetland area. The boundary treatments will in the form of several fence types and natural fencing in the form of trees and hedges.

On their dedicated website, the Bohola Community Park committee explain their mission is to create a space which promotes wellness and mindfulness whilst preserving and promoting the natural environment.

'We would like the park to be an area where people can exercise, run, go for a walk, admire the natural flora and fauna or relax in the community orchard.'
