Death of former Mayo national boxing champion in London

The death has occurred suddenly of Sean Corley, Ealing, London, and formerly of Thomas Street, Castlebar.

Sean is survived by his devoted wife Eileen, daughter Louise, son John, daughter-in-law Jackie and grandchildren Hollie, Hanna, Sean, his brothers Kevin (Breaffy), Patrick and Raymond (Castlebar), sisters Mary Ruane (Castlebar) and Gay Benham (London), to whom deepest sympathy is tendered.

Sean was 80 last July and widely known as a All-Ireland champion boxer in his youth.

He established Brompton Glass in London in 1967, a business which has since growth to establish a reputation as one of the most recognised glazing companies in the city.

A true gentleman, Sean was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

He will be deeply missed by his family and friends from wide and far.

Paying tribute to him, Sean Horkan, Castlebar Boxing Club, said he was deeply saddened to learn of Sean Corley's passing.

He stated: "Sean was an active member of Castlebar Boxing Club in the 1950s and 1960s and won the national boxing title in 1960 at the National Stadium, Dublin.

"Following his move to London he became a prominent member of Castlebar Men's Association in the English capital.

"He was involved in organising the annual dinner dance of the association, an important event for Mayo folk in exile there, helping them to keep in touch and find support.

"Sean did a lot of unselfish work for many people and his love for his native Castlebar never waned over the years."
