€330,000 funding allocated to Mayo Roscommon Hospice

The Department of Health has confirmed an allocation of €330,000 to Mayo Roscommon Hospice.

This once-off funding is towards the provision of palliative and end-of-life care.

Welcoming the news, Deputy Michael Ring said: “The palliative care services provided by Mayo Hospice are excellent and the support they provide to people in Mayo are second to none.”

“I hope this once-off funding will enable Mayo Hospice to continue providing such a valuable service in our society."

A sum of €420,000 has been confirmed for Galway Hospice.

In a statement, Deputy Alan Dillon stated: “This additional funding of €750,000 for the hospices operating in the west is most welcome.

"The funding will help to progress increasing the equitable access to palliative care services across Ireland.

"Funding will also be used to support palliative care services provided by voluntary organisations and support the financial sustainability of the voluntary hospice sector.”

“It was great to attend the opening of the new Roscommon Palliative Care Unit last month along with Public Health Minister, Frank Feighan, and Health Minister Stephen Donnelly.

"The work being done by Mayo-Roscommon Hospice is second to none and it is great to see their hard work bear fruit with both campuses in Castlebar and Roscommon now up and running.

"I hope this once-off funding will assist them in their efforts and to continue providing their first-class service to people in the west requiring end-of-life care.”
