Funding of €5m. for Mayo hospital and healthcare services

Funding of €5 million has been approved for Mayo University Hospital and other healthcare facilities in Mayo.

The money has been allocated under the 2022 Capital Plan.

Welcoming the news, Senator Lisa Chambers said: “This is essential funding that is badly needed to improve facilities and services.

"I worked closely with my colleague Minister Stephen Donnelly to secure funding for Mayo University hospital and I am glad to see it come to fruition."

The funding at Mayo University Hospital will go towards an electrical network upgrade and hospital sterile supplies and equipment equipment.

It will also cover the cost of a new ground floor extension to the emergency department and a new medical assessment unit while the reconfiguration of C Ward will facilitate the new build tie-in and provide additional isolation rooms.”

"We are very lucky to have a hospital in the county town and it is important that we continue to invest in its future," added Senator Chambers.

The funding will also result the refurbishment of two high support community residences, An Coilín and Teach Aisling, to appropriately accommodate nine residents in three residential units.

Deputy Michael Ring has welcomed the funding for projects in Mayo.

"Our health system continually requires investment in capital projects to meet the needs of the people of Mayo.

"In fact, our greatest asset in the Mayo health system is the staff who have worked tirelessly to treat people with dignity, respect and the best care possible,” he said.

Senator Paddy Burke stated the investment is badly needed and he looked forward to works proceeding as soon as possible.
