Approaching the Kiltimagh Road junction. Councillors want an overbridge or roundabout to address safety concerns at the location.

Report being compiled on Swinford by-pass junctions

A REPORT on all the junctions along the Swinford by-pass is being prepared by Transport Infrastructure Ireland (TII).

Local councillors are not moving to close the old bog road at Carrowbaun, near the Kiltimagh Road junction, as requested by TII, until they come up with proposals to address safety on the N5.

The matter came before a Claremorris-Swinford Municipal District meeting yesterday (Wednesday) when elected members were told it is hoped TII will shortly publish a wider proposal for all junctions along the by-pass.

Councillors have requested an overbridge or roundabout at the Swinford-Kiltimagh junctions.

Councillor Gerry Murray said members are anxious that a comprehensive solution be found. Progress is being made with TII.

Councillor John Caulfield agreed that a more comprehensive report is needed.

A workshop took place recently between councillors, management and representatives of TII.
