Significant accommodation boost for two Mayo schools

Mayo TD Alan Dillon has received confirmation from the Department of Education that St Joseph's Community College, Charlestown, and Fahy National School, Westport, have had initially project approval for school extensions.

The proposed development at St Joseph's Community College, Charlestown, consists of 13 additional rooms.

They include a mainstream classroom, music room, textile class, science lab., science prep. room, construction Room, construction prep. room, DCG room, art room, two class-based SEN units, a WC for user- assisted and and a dining room.

Fahy National School proposed development consists of six additional rooms.

They include a mainstream classroom, a SET room, a SEN base, a WC and one user-assisted WC.

Deputy Dillon stated: "I am delighted to received confirmation for both of the schools from the department of education.

"These additions will facilitate future growth in pupil numbers in both the Charlestown and Westport.

"I wish St. Josephs principal John Bones, Fahy NS principal Máire Nic An Fhailghigh, the boards of management, staff and students every continued success for the future."

Deputy Dara Calleary has also welcomed the projects.
