Táin Óg hurling success for Mayo club

After defeating Easkey in the Tàin Óg Semi-Final in Bekan on Saturday, Westport GAA Under 13 hurlers found themselves in the final against a very strong, skilfully Athleague/Tremane team.

The Westport GAA manager cemented that "the final was the hardest game we've played in this year so far."

At half time Westport were down by six points - 0-2 to 2-2, but were looking to take advantage of the stiff breeze in the second half. A huge heroic performance saw the boys close the gap to two points in injury time.

The work rate and determination of the Westport team was amazing and in the last moment of the game after a series of lovely passes Oisín Barrett found himself through on goal and delivered a fantastic goal to put Westport in a one point lead after which the final whistle was blown.

It was an incredible performance by an incredible group of lads who do not know how to lie down but will keep going to the bitter end no matter what.
