Mayo's Kids In Motion celebrates with launch day

KIDS In Motion Gymnastics Club opened in January 2010 and is the brainchild of Ballina businesswoman, Lorraine Cronin. Since then, the club has gone from strength to strength thanks to Lorraine’s trojan work, relentless dedication, and the support of all of our members and their parents throughout the years.

Lorraine has been providing the highest quality of gymnastics and PE classes to the people of Mayo for over 15 years, originally travelling to schools across the county to deliver the gymnastic strand of the primary PE curriculum. Lorraine has also worked for the Department of Education for many years, teaching PE to special needs schools and groups around Mayo.

Kids in Motion has been located in towns such as Killala, Crossmolina, Ballina, Westport, Bangor, Belmullet and Castlebar throughout the past 12 years. Whilst it was a joy to be in a position to deliver our classes to so many different towns and people in Mayo, it was always the dream to have a place to call our own, and in 2020 when Covid hit, it all seemed to fall into place from there.

The day that the schools closed, and the world began to shut down, the van that transported Kids In Motion to the schools throughout Mayo decided to pack it in. Our venues that we ran our classes in began to inform us that they would no longer be able to accommodate us and at the time, it all seemed like it wasn’t looking good.

Rather than giving up there and then, true to form, Lorraine powered through and decided it was time to go on the hunt for a home for Kids In Motion and in June 2021, we opened the doors of our first, fully equipped, state of the art, permanent gym here in Breaffy Road Business Park, Castlebar. We now run 14 classes throughout the week for children aged 1-14, as well as catering for schools to come to our facility where we cover the gymnastics strand of the primary school PE curriculum.

We also offer birthday parties where you can book a two-hour slot in the gym, fully supervised with complimentary mi wadi for the children and teas and coffees for parents.

We always want to provide the best service possible to the people of Castlebar and Mayo and are delighted to say that we have plans to bring new GymAble - additional needs gymnastics classes - to our timetable in September 2022.

Kids in Motion is a non-competitive, recreational club and we pride ourselves on creating a warm, friendly, safe environment where the children can come to learn their gymnastics without the pressure and stress of competition. We want every child to leave our venue with a boost of confidence feeling good about themselves and what they have achieved in class.

Social interaction is extremely important for children and we do a lot of partner and team work so they can make friends for life.

Kids In Motion currently employs 13 staff, all of whom are garda vetted and have completed courses in child safeguarding in sport. All staff are constantly working to improve their knowledge and complete courses with Gymnastics Ireland and Sport Ireland in order to provide the most up to date and professional coaching possible.

You can find all details of classes, pricing, etc., on our website www.kidsinmotion.ie.

We want to thank everyone for their support over the years and particularly in the past year.

Thanks to those who attended our launch day on Saturday, July 23, last. It was great to see everyone out and enjoying the day for such a special occasion.

Onwards and upwards for Kids In Motion and we look forward to welcoming you to our gym in the near future.
