Gardaí probe into Mayo pub burglary is ongoing

Thieves have broken into a public house in central Mayo where they stole cigarettes, bottles of spirits and a safe.

The incident which occurred at the Railway Tavern in Manulla last Thursday is being investigated by gardaí in Castlebar.

Cigarettes to the value of €6,000 were taken from cigarette dispensing machines in the premises while spirits to value of €5,000 were also stolen.

A safe was also removed from the property and late found dumped on the roadside near the village of Ballyheane.

The thieves gained access to the safe and removed a sum of cash.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses who may have observed suspicious activity in the Manulla or Ballyheane area last Thursday night or Friday morning to contact Castlebar Garda Station.

A number of similar incidents have taken place in Co. Galway over the past number of weeks in which a gang was reportedly involved.
