Concerts featuring magnificent Mayo Male Voice Choir

AFTER the success of their Christmas performances in Ballintubber Abbey, the Museum of Country Life, Turlough, and Ireland West Airport, the members of the popular Mayo Male Voice Choir are inviting audiences to join them once again at one or more of their upcoming concerts.

The 50-strong choir, directed by Deirdre Lee, and accompanied by Rebecca Cresham, will perform a number of concerts in the coming weeks.

On Saturday, February 18, the choir will perform together with the Wicklow Male Voice Choir in beautiful Christchurch, Castlebar, at 8 p.m., with donations at the door going towards the restoration of the church.

No strangers to Castlebar, the Wicklow Male Voice choir took part in the Mayo International Choral Festival some years back and promised a return visit. They are looking forward to renewing acquaintances and singing again in Mayo.

On Saturday, February 25, at 8 p.m., the choir will perform at the Springtime Serenade concert at the Lodge at Ashford Castle. They will be joined by the Headford Presentation School Choir and Ensemble, directed by Siobhán Shaughnessy and Ita Cunningham.

Organised by friends of the Mayo International Choral Festival, and supported by The Lodge at Ashford and Ashford Castle, all funds raised go towards Dolmen drop-in centres in Mayo and Headford's Solas organisation.

Tickets are available in Cong Post Office, Monaghan’s Centra in Headford, or online at www.mmvchoir.eventbrite.com (booking fees apply when booking online).

Saturday, April 15, will see the choir travel to Ennis in Co. Clare to perform with the UK’s Steeton Male Voice Choir. They will also be joined by Harmony Bro acapella group from Ennis, directed by Michael Hennessy. Proceeds go to the Men’s Shed organisation. More details to be announced.
