Wedding bells ring out for Mayo broadcaster Michael D. and Nollaig

The marriage ceremony has taken place today of renowned Mayo radio journalist and GAA commentator Michael D. McAndrew and Nollaig Collins, his girlfriend of six years.

Michael D., as he is popularly known, is a lynchpin of Midwest Radio, specialising in news and sport.

Nollaig, his bride, a social worker based in Ballina, hails from Lacken on the north Mayo coast.

Fr. Michael Harrison, parish priest of Killala, united the happy couple in matrimony at a ceremony in St. Patrick’s Church, Lacken, this afternoon.

Alan Mills, a friend of the groom from Glenamoy, was best man while Emma Loughney travelled back from Australia to act as bridesmaid for her friend Nollaig.

There was one very special guest at the wedding – Michael D. and Nollaig’s five-month-old daughter, Anna Rose.

After the religious side of the ceremony was over the bride and groom, along with their 400 or so guests, headed west to the Broadhaven Hotel in Belmullet for the reception.

The newly weds won’t be honeymooning just yet.

Michael D. will be behind the microphone for Mayo’s next game in the All-Ireland series in a few weeks time.

After that the couple will decide on a sunshine break destination.
