Substantial investments announced for two Mayo schools

SUBSTANTIAL investments in two Mayo schools - Gortnor Abbey Secondary School in Crossmolina and Inver National School - have been announced by Minister of State Dara Calleary.

The proposed development at Gortnor Abbey represents a multi-million euro investment and includes two mainstream classrooms, a graphics room, art room, textiles room, science lab and prep room, engineering room and prep room and two class base units.

Said Minister Calleary: “This is a major expansion for the school and I am delighted to have made positive representation, along with Councillor Michael Loftus, to Minister for Education Norma Foley when she visited the county last week.

“I want to congratulate Mr. John Mangan, his board of management, staff and all involved.”

At Inver National School an additional classroom and SET room is to be delivered.

Commented Minister Calleary: “Again, these rooms are badly needed and I am delighted that they will now be delivered.

“Councillor Sean Carey has been making representation to me for some time, and I am delighted to now be in a position to confirm the extension.”

He continued: “Since returning to government Fianna Fáil has been very committed to developing education and educational facilities and I am very pleased that our record here in Mayo in terms of delivery is very strong.

“We have more projects to deliver and we continue to work closely with the minister and the department on those.”
