Good news on long-awaited east Mayo pedestrian crossing

THE community of Tooreen is to get its long-awaited pedestrian crossing.

The good news has been confirmed by Councillor Neil Cruise.

As the only councillor in the Swinford electoral area sitting on Mayo County Council's Roads Strategic Policy Committee, he has constantly highlighted the necessity for a pedestrian crossing in Tooreen village at regular meetings with TII.

He brought the matter up again at the May meeting of the Claremorris Swinford Municipal District, where it was confirmed that a feasibility and options report had been submitted to TII.

Now, Councillor Cruise has received confirmation that 'TII have finally acknowledged the necessity for a pedestrian crossing in Tooreen village'.

“The project can now proceed to the design phase,” he stated, and he has confirmation from the area engineer that the pedestrian crossing should be in place in the village by the end of this year or in spring 2024 at the latest.

Councillor Cruise extended thanks to area engineer Conrad Harley, Padraic Higgins and the roads design section of Mayo County Council for their assistance and diligence.
