Mayo communities mourn passing of much-loved personality

The death of Mary Caulfield, The Fairways, Ballina, and formerly of Carrowkeel, Ballyhaunis, has evoked an immense sense of sorrow and loss.

She died peacefully at the Mayo Hospice in Castlebar yesterday surrounding by her family.

Blessed with a warm and endearing personality, Mary's passing has created a huge void in the lives of those closest to her.

Always positive and optimistic in her outlook, she endeared herself to so many people with whom she came into contact over the years.

A former Lady Captain at Ballina Golf Club, where she had many great friends, Mary worked as a popular member of the staff of former Mayo TD Michelle Mulherin's constituency office in Ballina for a number of years.

Many warm tributes are being paid to her on social media.

"Mary was a true lady who will be missed by so many," one stated.

"She was always so nice and kind, a beautiful lady," another stated.

Phil Lundy, Lady Captain, Ballina Golf Club, said members of the club are devastated by the news of Mary's passing.

"We were lucky to have known Mary, a fabulous lady, a great friend to everyone, a great golfer, I could go on," she said in a tribute on the condolences page of RIP.ie.

Ms. Lundy extended sincere condolences to Mary's family and friends.

Mary will be dearly and lovingly missed by her husband Rob, brothers Marcus, John, Enda and Ruairi, sisters-in-law Marie, Jackie, Sylvia and Breda, nephews Cian, Cillian, Keith, John, Mark and Calum, nieces Aoife, Aisling, Maeve, Emma, Ruby and Jay, uncles, aunts, stepchildren Claire and Kevin, relatives and friends, to whom deepest sympathy is tendered.

Reposing at McGowan's Funeral Home, Ballina, on Wednesday evening from 5 p.m. with removal at 7 p.m. to her family home in Carrowkeel, Ballyhaunis (Eircode F35 DD36), where she will repose on Thursday from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Funeral will arrive to St. Patrick’s Church, Ballyhaunis, on Friday morning for 11 a.m. Requiem Mass followed by burial in Ballyhaunis Cemetery.
