Tolster's Golf Society members continue their travels to some of Mayo's top courses

Tolster's Golf Society continue their travels around Mayo’s top golf courses with this year's Major Season.

Fish Cunningham's President's Day (sponsored by the man himself), held in Claremorris Golf Club, was won by the captain Paul Harte, shooting an excellent round, closely followed by Paddy O’Donnell in second place, with Frank Murray, Liam Conroy and John Mulroy rounding out the top five, not to be undone by the Phyxer’s Captain, Fergus Burns, who beamed in from Rocklands to take the top visitors' prize. Michael Cheevers and James Murray secured the longest drive and nearest the pin prizes.

The golf course was in great condition and provided a good test of golf, while the weather played its part and ensured the day was warm and dry.

Next was Paul Harte’s Captain's Day (sponsored by the Planning Partnership) in Westport Golf Club, where again the course and conditions were a delight for the huge turnout.

David Brody took top honours, followed by Mark Tolster, Paddy Grogan, John McHugh and John Nugent in the top five, while Finnian Joyce secured the top visitor place. Cillian Gavin and Paddy Grogan finished out the prize winners with nearest the pin and longest drive respectively.

As always, the society was well catered for on and off the course at both clubs, and back at HQ in Tolster's Bar, where presentations and celebrations continued on both occasions, thanks to Gerry and the team for their hospitality.

The next outing will take the Society back to Castlebar Golf Club this Thursday (September 12), with limited places still available.

Tolster's Golf Society is always open to visitors and new members. Should you wish to join the society or play as a guest in any of the outings this year, simply enquire at Tolster's Bar on Spencer Street in Castlebar or via email to tolstersgolfsociety@gmail.com.
