Castlebar Educate Together pupils present stunning show

PUPILS from Castlebar Educate Together National School set the stage alight with their biennial winter show.

The TF Royal Theatre was full of parents, families and supporters of the school as they enjoyed musical and dramatic performances.

Younger pupils in Junior and Senior Infants sang festive songs and recited poems as Gaeilge and third and fourth class performed a short polyrhythmic composition on drums. All other classes, first to sixth, put on Peter Pan the Musical and it was truly an unforgettable show.

The school has benefited from Arts Council Creative Schools funding, BLAST arts initiative and more recently have worked with Poetry Ireland.

Their love of the arts and performance was interwoven into the whole production. Pupils' own creative artwork combined with digital technologies were used for the backdrops and pupils themselves created costumes and props with some parental support.

The stage was set alight with confident performances and creative pupils. The audience enjoyed individual and group musical performances and the live house band added another layer to this acoustic and visual feast.

Working with professional sound and lighting, the pupils could see their ideas come to life and experience first-hand the many aspects of dramatic theatre.

The talent among pupils is astounding and the enthusiasm and effort they put into this show is exactly how they approach their learning in school.

Pupils described the show as “the best thing ever” and they “can’t wait for the next one in two years’ time”.

A phenomenal bunch of pupils and anything they set their mind to is achievable.
