Moves to address recurring water problem in Mayo town
Minister Dara Calleary has confirmed that Uisce Éireann have a mains rehabilitation project planned for the Ardnaree area of Ballina in 2026.
The minister again raised the matter with Uisce Éireann in the aftermath of a burst in the area two weeks ago.
He outlined: “There have been a number of issues with the mains on Abbey Street over the course of the last couple of years. This affects customers across Ardnaree and on towards Bonniconlon.
"As most people will be aware, mains rehabilitation works took place across Ballina last year with more than 1.3km of old mains being replaced.
"Upper Abbey Street to Bunree Road has also replaced and I am happy to now confirm that an extension of that work is planned for Q4 of 2026.
"This will involve a significant investment in rehabilitation works on Abbey Street, The Brook and Cathedral Road.
“I am conscious of the inconveniences faced by residents and business owners on Abbey Street when the bursts occur and it is imperative that we get these essential works done.
"I am glad to report that Uisce Éireann have the works on their agenda for 2026 and I will be liaising with them to ensure the works are completed on time,” he said.
