Mayo tennis ace announces decision to retire from professional circuit

MAYO tennis star Daniel Glancy has announced his decision to retire as a professional in the sport due to injury.

The talented Castlebar-based player explained: “I have been managing a hip injury for the past few years which has affected me playing a full calendar year.

“Unfortunately it has now come to a point where I feel I can’t physically perform 100% week in week out on the Professional Tour. So I have made the tough decision to retire from professional tennis.

“Starting out as a young member of Castlebar Tennis Club, all I wanted to do was compete on the Professional Tennis Tour.”

During his career, he won seven professional doubles titles and became the first Connaught man to represent Ireland in the Davis Cup, which was a huge honour for him.

“I have enjoyed every minute of my journey, through the good and tough times. I got to travel and see the world doing something I love and I am very grateful for this,” he added.
