Power of Storm Jorge being felt across Mayo

THE power of Storm Jorge is being felt across Mayo.

In its latest update this evening, Met. Èireann stated it will be stormy for the rest of the day with heavy falls of rain and hail bringing a risk of further flooding.

Some wintry falls will also occur, mainly over higher ground. It will be extremely windy, with strong gale to storm force westerly winds and some severe and damaging gusts.

 It will remain extremely windy tonight with very strong westerly winds continuing to reach gale or strong gale force.

The winds will gradually ease later, but gales will continue to affect coastal areas. It will be a cold night, with scattered heavy showers and some wintry falls expected, especially over higher ground.

Some frost and icy patches may develop in well sheltered places.

ESB Networks crews are dealing with power outages in Swinford, Ballinrobe and Newport.

Sunday will be a cold, bright and windy day, with a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers.

The showers will be most frequent in western areas and some will be heavy, with some wintry falls again likely, especially over high ground.
