Remote working in Mayo rural communities 'very important'

CONNECTED hubs that allow people to work remotely in rural areas are regarded as very important by Mayo County Council.

John Magee, head of enterprise with Mayo County Council, said they are working towards the concept that people can have a career in rural Ireland and not just one job – that people can work from, literally, anywhere.

“We're trying to convince people that it is not a particularly risky thing to move back to a county like Mayo,” Mr. Magee said at an Economic Development, Enterprise Support, Planning & Marine Strategic Policy Committee meeting.

To that end, the Innovation Quarter in Ballina, which is under construction, and the Imperial Hotel in Castlebar, for example, are highly important pieces of infrastructure, he pointed out.

With regard to a question from Councillor Ger Deere on progress with the Imperial, Mr. Magee said significant preparatory work has been undertaken and he was hopeful it would be progressed quickly.
