Plans to upgrade dangerous south Mayo road are unveiled

WIDENING and bend realignment is proposed on the R332 Kilmaine to Foxhall Road.

The scheme consists of approximately 3,000m length (seven sections).

The proposed cross section typically consists of a 6m wide carriageway, a 3m wide two-way cycleway/pedestrian shared facility, with a 2m wide segregation area.

The plans are currently on public display and Mayo County Council invites submissions from members of the public.

A report on the existing road between Kilmaine and Foxhall sets out how the route has very poor horizontal and vertical alignment and its width is not to regional road standard.

It is substandard in terms of horizontal and vertical alignment, pavement strength, pavement condition and carriageway width, making it unsafe in many locations.

The proposed development will aim to reduce hazards, with the realignment of the existing carriageway and construction of a new shared use pedestrian and two-way cycle facility.
