Works at popular Mayo woods welcomed

WORKS at Raheens Wood in Castlebar have been welcomed by Councillor Martin McLoughlin.

The car park has been upgraded with a tarmac finish, and is a good job, he commented at a municipal district meeting.

The trail through the wood has also been done to a high standard, in cooperation between Coillte and Mayo County Council, and the councillor was delighted that it is wheelchair accessible.

A bin for dog poop was requested by Councillor Donna Sheridan who was told by her colleague that bins are part of the plan.

Councillor Ger Deere highlighted an issue with the cycle lane and footpath out to Raheens, which is in an awful state with glass from broken bottles.

It needs to be cleaned up again, he said, saying it is 'unbelievable' to think people are breaking bottles there.
