Prestigious ict award for castlebar students

AMY McLoughlin and Sharon Redmond from St. Joseph’s Secondary School in Castlebar have been named winners of the Best Group Project for Giga Spiders at the Eircom Junior Spider Awards.

The creative website, The Ukulele People, was designed by the two first year students under the supervision of their ICT teacher, Ms. Mary Ann Calvey.

The judges commended the girls on their simple but effective web design and for a website that has everything anyone would need to know about a ukulele.

The judges admitted their newfound respect for the instrument.

The Eircom Junior Spider awards recognise and reward primary and post-primary students aged 19 and under for the innovative ways they use the internet, especially around website development, school blogs and design.

Leonard Hobbs from Intel presented Amy and Sharon with the Giga Spiders Best Group Project winner’s award in Facebook HQ in Dublin.

Congratulations to the girls on their excellent achievement.
