Mayo gardai issue appeal after Joe Deacy memorial is vandalised

GARDAÍ in Claremorris have issued an appeal for information after a wreath and flowers laid along the N5 in memory of the late Joe Deacy were vandalised.

It has also been confirmed by gardaí that pictures of the young man were also removed in the incident that has caused widespread anger. It occurred sometime between 10 p.m. on Wednesday night last and early yesterday morning.

The flowers, wreaths and framed photograph had been laid at the weekend during a memorial service to mark the first anniversary of the death of the 21-year-old.

Despite an intensive homicide invesitigation by the gardaí which is ongoing, nobody has been charged in relation to Joe Deacy's death.

Mr. Deacy, of St. Alban’s in Hertfordshire in England, was found unconscious in the driveway of a house at Gortnasillagh, Swinford, in the early hours of August 12, 2017.

He died the following day in Beaumont Hospital, Dublin.
