Investigation underway after train hits van at Mayo level crossing

AN investigation is underway after a freight train hit a van at a level crossing near Claremorris earlier today.

The train was on route from Ballina to Dublin.

The emergency services and the gardai have attended the scene.

The driver of the van was transferred to Mayo University Hospital in Castlebar after sustaining injuries, which are not believed to be life threatening.

The line reopened earlier this afternoon, Iarnrod Eireann confirmed.

But there are likely to be delays with other services on the Mayo to Dublin line for the remainder of today.
