Work is underway on repairing Market Square in Castlebar at long last.

Casual traders set to be relocated in Mayo town centre

CASUAL traders are set to be relocated in Castlebar town centre when they arrive for tomorrow's (Friday) traditional food market.

Work is underway on repairing a section of paving on Market Square where they usually set up their stalls.

Bollards are also being erected to stop vehicles from entering the plaza.

The traders will now be accommodated at the lower end of Market Square, the cathaoirleach of Castlebar Municipal District, Councillor Michael Kilcoyne, confirmed.

"It's the best alternative in the circumstances," he added.

Councillor Martin McLoughlin has called for additional pedestrian crossings to be put in place in the Market Square area due to the high numbers of shoppers using an area which also attracts a significant level of through-traffic.
