Big Ballyheane anniversary celebrations

THIS year marks the 25th anniversary of Ballyheane Community Council, which was established in 1993.

A number of events are being planned for later this month and early next month to mark this special occasion.

Throughout the past 25 years, members of the community council have played a pivotal role in spearheading and coordinating many initiatives and developments in the local region. The council collaborates and works closely with many statutory and voluntary agencies, including Mayo County Council, South West Mayo Development Company (SWMDC), the Rural Social Scheme (RSS), Ballyheane Tidy Towns, etc.

Ballyheane is part of the Tochar Valley Rural Community Network (TVRCN), having many ecclesiastical sites, walking trails and many other natural features.

On Monday, December 3, at 7.30 p.m. in the community centre, a special celebratory night will take place, with guest speakers and a look back over the past 25 years and more of developments in the region.

Members of the public are also invited to submit photographs for a display, which will be unveiled as part of the celebrations. Photographs can be submitted to Pat Staunton on (087) 7412516 or Frank Moran on (089) 4541673 no later than Monday, November 26.

Further details will be announced over the coming weeks. Members of the local community and the general public are welcome to attend.
