Mayo authors shortlisted for An Post Irish Book Awards

THE shortlist for the An Post Irish Book Awards 2018 has been announced, and it features a diverse mix of exceptional writing from new and established writers across 16 categories.

A number of Mayo authors appear on the shortlist, including Sally Rooney, Mary Robinson and Cora Staunton.

Sally Rooney is a nominee in the Eason Book Club Novel of the Year category for her wide-acclaimed Normal People. Mary Robinson's Climate Justice is in the Onside Non-Fiction Book of the Year category, while Cora Staunton's recently released Game Changer is on the Bord Gáis Energy Sports Book of the Year shortlist.

The awards celebrate and promote Irish writing to the widest range of readers possible.

To support their sponsorship, An Post has unveiled #ReadersWanted, a national campaign that celebrates the value and joy of reading and encourages everyone to pick up more books, more often.

To tie in with the announcement of the An Post Irish Book Awards shortlist, the public are being asked to cast their votes online for the best books of the year on the An Post Irish Book Awards website https://www.irishbookawards.irish/vote2018/. Votes may be cast until Friday, November 23, and the winners will be announced at a gala ceremony in the Clayton Hotel, Burlington Road, Dublin, on Tuesday, November 27.

This year, the An Post Irish Book Awards will be presented by Keelin Shanley and a one-hour highlight television programme will be broadcast on RTÉ One on Thursday, November 29, at 10.45 p.m.
