No ministerial comment on Mayo swimming pool opening delay

THE Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, Brendan Griffin, has declined to explain the reason for the delay in opening the new €11.2 million swimming pool complex in Castlebar.

When questioned on the matter in Dáil Éireann by Deputy Lisa Chambers, he said the project, which is being managed by Mayo County Council, wil open early next year.

“I am informed by the council that construction is almost complete, with fit out by the council commencing this week.

“According to the council, total expenditure on the project to date has been approximately €11.2m and of this €6,656,658 has been reimbursed by my Department. The new facility is expected to be open early in 2019.”
