Credit Union issues statement on planned industrial action by Mayo staff

First Choice Credit Union (FCCU) in Mayo has moved to reassure its members that it is doing everything possible to minimise the impact of the industrial action called by SIPTU staff members on Friday, March 15.

A statement issued today by FCCU stated: “First Choice Credit Union value our members and staff, and regret that despite making substantial efforts to reach a constructive solution, SIPTU staff at the credit union have announced this work stoppage.

“We have engaged in substantive talks and negotiations with SIPTU, arising from discussions dating back to 2015. These matters were referred, by the SIPTU members, to the Labour Court for consideration in June 2018.

“In September 2018 the Labour Court, having considered detailed submissions from both SIPTU and the Credit Union, made a formal recommendation in the form of a composite package of items, covering each area referred to them.

“The credit union accepted the recommendations of the Labour Court.

“However, the recommendations were rejected by the SIPTU members.

“The recommendations made by the Labour Court are a sensible and sustainable resolution to the issues in the context of our core objective of protecting both our members and staff.

“A contingency plan is in place to ensure continuity of a level of service for our members during the industrial action time frame.

“Details of any changes to service levels or opening times will be available on our website, social media pages and in-branch notices. Additionally, we are available at enquiries@fccu.ie or by phone on 094 9022969.

“First Choice Credit Union apologises to our members for the inconvenience that may be caused during this time.”

Earlier this week SIPTU members working in First Choice Credit Union in Ballyhaunis, Achill and Castlebar served notice of industrial action in the dispute concerning pay, travel time and other terms and conditions after rejecting Labour Court reccommendations to deal with the issues.
