Students protesting in Castlebar today.

Students stage climate change protest

STUDENTS from four Mayo schools are on the streets of the county town this morning staging a climate change protest.

With placards and a chant, they have been parading from the Mall, to the Main Street, and down to the shopping quarters on Hopkins Road, delivering a clear message: We can all try to make a change and do our part to tackle global warming and climate change.

The students - first, second, third and fifth years – are from St. Gerald's College, St. Joseph's Secondary School and Davitt College in Castlebar and Foxford Secondary School.

Spokespersons for the group explained they had joined the global campaign to raise awareness about the issues surrounding climate change and to urge everyone to make a change.

They are encouraging us all – adults, teenagers and children – to get out and protest and play our part.

This is our planet. We only have one. We might as well get everyone together to try and fix it.”
