Lough Mask search for missing angler is ongoing

THE search is continuing at Lough Mask this weekend for an angler missing since March 8.

Experienced boatman Sean Maloney, Ballinrobe, went for an afternoon's fishing on the date in question and did not return home.

The alarm was raised and the boat owned by Mr. Maloney, aged in his 70s, was found the following day.

The search has been ongoing on a daily basis since then, although it was restricted on a number of days due to poor weather conditions and strong cross currents.

Additional divers have joined members of the Grainne Uaile Sub Aqua Club in recent days.

They included divers from clubs in Roscommon, Galway, Longford and Shannonside.

The search is being coordinated by the Corrib/Mask Search and Rescue.

Several other organisations are involved, including An Garda Siochana, Mayo Civil Defence and Inland Fisheries.

The commitment and dedication of everybody involved in the search operation to date has been nothing short of exceptional.
