Destruction of defibrillators in Mayo town widely condemned

A RECENT act of vandalism which resulted in the destruction of 24-hour public access defibrillators in a Mayo town has been widely condemned.

The incident occurred at Healy Terrace, Ballina, earlier this month and was reported to An Garda Siochana by Ballina Community First Responders.

Now Senator Dr. Keith Swanick has slammed the crime as 'disgraceful thuggery'.

He said his Life Saving Equipment Bill, which is due to be passed into law by the Oireachtas shortly, will ensure stiff penalties and fines are imposed on those found guilty of such acts of vandalism.

Local Councillor Annie May Reape said she was very disappointed and angry which she learned of the incident.

Senator Rose Conway-Walsh has also joined in condemning those responsible for such a reckless act.
