Online petition over pool pricing

AN online petition has been launched calling on Mayo County Council to look again at the pricing structure for the new swimming pool in Castlebar.

Around 300 people have already signed the petition since it went live in recent days.

It was set up by local election candidate Harry Barrett and sets out the following call to the council:

'As the new Castlebar Swimming Pool is a public facility, we the undersigned believe that there must a €6 swim-only option for those on low income in our town.

'We now call on the executive of Mayo County Council to revise the pricing structure to include the €6 swim only option and indeed to reduce the annual membership charge for local families on low income.'

In a post on his dedicated election campaign Facebook page, Barrett said Mayo County Council 'need to stop the nonsense' and look again at the pricing structure for the new swimming pool and he also called for a €4 swim for the unwaged and those on pensions.
