Mayo radio voice Angelina is switching to a new challenge

POPULAR Midwest Radio sports editor and broadcaster Angelina Nugent is to leave the station at the end of the month to  take up a new role in public relations with the Mayo Roscommon Hospice.

A household name in Mayo, Angelina carved out a niche for herself in radio broadcasting and sports reporting, in particular, as the voice of Midwest Radio sport.

She worked for a few years with one of the great legends of radio broadcasting, the late Willie 'The Shoe' McNeely, Castlebar.

It didn't take Angelina long to establish herself as one of the top radio sports editors and broadcasters, anchoring the weekend shows and covering all the sporting action, both local and national.

Angelina cut her teeth in print journalism but soon moved into radio broadcasting where she established herself as a very competent presenter, building up a big listnership and making Midwest Radio among the top local stations in the country for sport.

The Glenisland native was also to the forefront of Midwest Radio's live coverages of all of Mayo's national league and championship games all over the country for many years, while she was also very much involved in the highly successful outside broadcasting unit which visited many towns and villages across the region.

After a long, successful and very demanding careeer, she indicated it was now time for a new challenge and one that she was eagerly looking forward to.

“I felt if I didn't decide to make the move now I would probably never move so I feel this is now the right time for me and I am looking forward to the challenge that working with Mayo Roscommon Hospice will present,” she said.
