Efforts intensify for funding to open new 14-bed Mayo Hospice facility

THE new €9.2 million Hospice facility in Castlebar is completed.

But funding is awaited from the HSE to provide staff before the 14-bed unit can open to patients.

Minister Michael Ring along with officials and elected members of Mayo County Council have been given a tour of the complex.

The new facility, off Westport Road, will be run under the auspices of the Galway Hospice.

Mary Nash, CEO of the Galway Hospice, told Midwest Radio they are lobbying local politicians and the HSE intensely at present to secure the budget to see the Castlebar unit opening as soon as possible.

She described the new Castlebar facility as 'a credit to the people of Co. Mayo'.
