Celebrations at Kilmeena GAA Club today

MINISTER Michael Ring will this evening (Monday) officially open new facilities at Kilmeena GAA Club.

Minister Ring allocated €80,000 for this work under the Sports Capital Programme in his role as Minister for Tourism and Sport in 2015. The club has used the grant to develop an artificial playing surface, a practice wall and improvements to their existing natural pitch.

Speaking ahead of the event in Kilmeena, Minister Ring said: “It’s great to see clubs availing of government supports in order to improve their facilities. The Sports Capital Programme is the government's primary vehicle to support the development of sports facilities and the purchase of sports equipment.

It has transformed the sporting landscape with improvements in the quality and quantity of sporting facilities in villages, towns and rural areas throughout Mayo and across the country. We are committed to ensuring this progress continues.

These new facilities are a credit to the local community and all involved with Kilmeena GAA Club.

I wish the club every success with this development and I encourage the local community to make use of these wonderful facilities.”
