Represent local built heritage with world's largest photo competition

WIKI Loves Monuments, the world’s largest photography competition, needs your Mayo pictures to create a visual archive of Irish built heritage.

The 2019 Wiki Loves Monuments photography competition kicked off on Sunday and runs until Monday, September 30.

The competition was established by the Wikimedia community, the movement behind Wikipedia, and is organised locally by Wikimedia Community Ireland. The competition aims to raise awareness of Ireland’s national monuments and protected structures while creating a crowd-sourced repository of quality photos that are free to use for public engagement and education.

Photographers of all levels are invited to photograph Irish built heritage and upload their photos to Wikimedia Commons. Irish entries will be judged by a panel of judges and the winners will be announced in late October. The top 10 Irish images will be entered into the international competition.

Since 2014 the Wiki Loves Monuments competition in Ireland has seen 844 photographers submitting over 6,000 images.

For full details of the competition, see www.wikilovesmonuments.ie, and for updates see @wikimediaIE #WLMIE and Wikimedia Community Ireland’s Facebook page.
