Mayo can still avoid relegation - Andy Moran

FORMER Mayo GAA star Andy Moran believes Mayo can still avoid relegation from Division One of the National League despite suffering their third defeat of the campaign against Kerry in Castlebar today - just a single point seperating the sides, 1-14 to 1-13.

Moran, co-commentating on the match on MidWest Radio, said the side's second half performance, in which they registered 1-9, will fuel the players with self-belief as they prepare for their closing games against Galway and Tyrone.

He stated: "We have done it before and we can do it again. But it depends on the team playing like it did in the second half today.

"The second half showing was as good as anything we produced during last year's successful campaign.

"So it's all about working on the positives and there were plenty of them after half-time. Aidan O'Shea was immense. But we can't make two of him.

"We know the challenge ahead is going to be tough but the players have shown what they are capable of. Let's build on it."

Moran said if relegation occurs, it would not be as a disaster.

"Sometimes, you have to take a step back to move forward," he added.
