Mayo third-level students told exams are going ahead online

Mayo third-level students have been informed that their college examinations will go ahead remotely as an alternative to the traditional hall exams.

Students have switched to online tuition following the cancellation of all campus lectures a number of weeks ago.

At NUI Galway, exams will be conducted online through Blackboard, Multiple-Choice Questions, take-home open-book exams, continuous assessment, projects, essays and presentations delivered via video.

Most exams will remain two hours in length with an extra 30 minutes added for upload.

A similar situation exists for students attending institutes of technology, including the Mayo GMIT Campus in Castlebar.

For a limited number of programmes, the grade of some First and Second Year modules will not include an ‘end-of-semester’ test.

All students will have to complete a disclaimer statement at the start of each exam declaring they are not cheating.

Students have been assured the quality of their degree is “paramount” and will not be affected by an alternative mode of assessment.
