Change of date for KFC 10th anniversary celebrations

DUE to circumstances beyond their control, the date of the inter-county boxing tournament to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Knockmore/Foxford Boxing Club has been changed.

The event was orginally fixed for this Saturday but will now go ahead on Sunday week, January 13.

The venue remains the Great National Hotel Ballina, who are the main sponsors of what's sure to be a feast of boxing.

The visitors will be Tyrone/Fermanagh and some cracking contests are lined up, with over 40 contests scheduled to take palce in what is going to be a huge day of action.

Secretary of Mayo Boxing Board, Dara Fahey, has spent the last fortnight matching, cancelling and re-matching boxers from both teams in an effort to make it as as evenly-matched as possible, giving every boxer the opportunity of having his or her hand raised.

Knockmore/Foxford Boxing Club (KFC) have as many as eight boxers involved on the day. Stepping into the ring for KFC on the Mayo team will be Kelsey Langan, Cian Hannigan, Michael McNamara, Thomas Tuffy, Conor Ryder, Lucas Kenny, Patrick McTigue and Aaron McDonnell.

The following clubs from the length and breadth of Mayo will have boxers on the programme: Aglish, Ardnaree, Achill, Ardagh/Crossmolina, Ballina, Ballyhaunis, Ballinrobe, Claremorris, Charlestown, Eagle, Geesala, Golden Gloves and Swinford.

The main event will commence at 1 p.m. and the show is expected to continue until 10 p.m.
