Launch events at two Swinford-based sports initiatives

IT'LL be a case of doors open and lights on in Swinford this weekend with two separate sports launch ceremonies taking place.

Mayo LGFA will host the official opening of their gym at Swinford Community Centre on Friday (March 8) at 7 p.m. The gym will cater for senior and underage county teams.

Mayo LGFA, in a statement on their Facebook page, said: “We see this facility as a big step forward in terms of our player development and welfare and it is the first time our teams will have a premises to call home.”

Meanwhile, close by, at the Amenity Park, Swinford Athletic Club will host the switch-on of the floodlights at their new track on Saturday at 6.30 p.m.

The new athletics track has only been in use since the beginning of the year but already the club is reaping the rewards, their most recent successes being at the Connaught juvenile indoor championships where they won 26 invididual provincial titles and had two relay team qualify for the national finals at the end of March.

All are invited to both celebrations.
