Christy moore likely to play castlebar

Hopes are rising that Christy Moore will be fit and well enough to fulfil his singing engagement at the Royal Hotel and Theatre, Castlebar, this Friday night (January 2).

The 69-year-old musician has been suffering from an ‘ongoing severe lung infection’, which has led to the cancellation of shows at other venues.

Up to 2,000 Moore fans have bought tickets for Friday night’s performance at the Mayo venue.

A spokesman for the venue said earlier today he was hoping for confirmation later in the day that the Castlebar engagement was going ahead.

“All the indications we have been getting from Christy’s management in the past day or so have been positive,” the spokesman explained, “so we are keeping our fingers crossed.”

Moore is due to play venues countrywide from early January through to March.
