Westport students answer irelands call as gaeilge

If the Irish rugby team are looking for motivation after last weekend’s defeat by Wales, they should look no further than the inspiring pupils in Ms. Timlin’s third and fourth class at Scoil Phadráig, Westport.

The class have come up with a brilliant idea to celebrate Seachtain na Gaeilge and Saint Patrick’s Day – to record Ireland's Call as Gaeilge.

The YouTube video clip came about as the children were learning about the parts of the body 'as Gaeilge' as well as having the Seachtain na Gaeilge atmosphere around the school, not to mention the excitement of Ireland's success on the rugby field, which inspired them to create the video 'Glaoch nd hEireann’ (Ireland's Call)

Lyrics were translated and printed out for the children to learn. They worked very hard to learn the lyrics 'as Gaeilge', while the melody was one they knew very well already, which made the process a lot easier.

The pupils choreographed their video with some simple but effective movements. A few props were added to make it a bit more fun.

Featured in the background are some of Ireland's rugby highlights so far this year.

They also to present the lyrics in both English and Gaeilge on the video to encourage people to sing along.
