Death of former mayo county registrar

Former Mayo County Registrar, Patrick U. (Patsy) Murphy, who died yesterday (Thursday) aged 89, had a distinguished legal career and was well liked and respected.

He presided over many election counts during his long career before his retirement when he was replaced by the present County Registar, Fintan Murphy.

A native of Ballinrobe, he lived at Carnalecka House on the Castlebar Road in the town. He was predeceased by his wife, Mary.

He is survived by his children Linda (Doyle), Sandra (Gilmartin), Debbie and Patrick, and a number of grandchildren.

He is reposing at his residence today (Friday) from 4.30 until 8 p.m. Private removal is on Saturday morning to St. Mary’s Church, Ballinrobe, for funeral Mass at 11 a.m., followed by burial in the New Cemetery.
